the creation of the DAFT FUNK clubnight

DJ Bex is a Funk and Soul based DJ, first inspired to play by becoming a regular at Funkademia at The Attic.  She began learning to DJ with the sole aim of playing for her favourite night.

Just a few years later, Bex became a Funkademia resident.  Playing Zumeba, One Central and Mint Lounge.

A self-proclaimed ‘Freestyler’ DJ Bex, creates amazing party vibes with her unique take on the Funkademia sound.  Playing lots of oldskool house and hip-hop mixed in with funk and soul classics.  And don’t be surprised to hear a touch of RnB, breaks or DnB.

Very quickly DJ Bex was picked up to claim a weekly residency playing ‘Musica’ at PoNaNa.  Filling the bar with dancers before moving to the club downstairs

“I’ve never known anyone keep a dance floor going as long as DJ Bex, I remember thinking..’play something crap I wanna go to the bar!’-  Helen (Funkademia punter)

Even when playing in Bars, Bex still gets them up dancing! Having played Dry Bar, Bar 57 and Font Bar amongst others.  DJ Bex creates a party atmosphere no matter the venue.

“I love it when people come up to me saying they haven’t heard the track I’m playing in years” –Bex

DJ Bex: “DAFT FUNK is a type of set that I trialled first at PoNaNa, then in the Baby Funk room at Mint Lounge.  I love to mix in some oldskool hip-hop with Funk and Soul classics, with a touch of RnB and disco for the warm up. Then loads of Oldskool house, big party tracks, and some more modern floor fillers.  Either way I’m dropping bombs all night long!”

“It always feels like your part of something special, like it’s a private party and she’s playing just for you!” – Matt (PoNaNa bar staff)
